Hi friends! Today’s post is going to be a short one. I wanted to share my thoughts on a recent purchase, the EVA Birkenstocks – my favourite sandals of this summer!
When I first saw the EVA Birkenstocks floating around on the internet, I was a little apprehensive because I’m not exactly a fan of their leather Birkenstocks. I bought a pair of the leather Birkenstocks almost a decade ago and have probably only worn them 5 times at best? I have pretty bony feet and my navicular bone (inner ankle) sticks out so it actually made breaking into the leather Birkenstocks quite difficult.
Fast forward 10 years, after a lot of research and reading a lot of generally positive reviews, I took the plunge and purchased the EVA Birkenstocks in white!
They’re Plastic & Waterproof
EVA stands for ethylene vinyl acetate and is a high-quality, very light, elastic material with very good cushioning. These sandals are waterproof and are super lightweight so you can totally wear them to the beach or go on super long walks!
Sizing
I found the sizing to be pretty TTS. I’m a 7-7.5 US so ordered a size 38.
Comfort
When you’re wearing the EVAs, it really does feel like you’re walking on a cloud. They are very comfortable and give a lot of support. I was worried about my navicular bone rubbing along the support of the sandals but the softness of the sandals have moulded to the shape of my feet. These sandals have a soft plastic, styrofoam, cushiony type of texture.

Cleaning
When I was deciding on which colour to purchase, I contemplated about the sandals getting dirty / stained easily and the colors fading. Ultimately, I opted for the white sandals and have not looked back! I walked around in my white Birkenstocks for almost the entire camping trip this past weekend. They got really dirty from walking around the beach and they also picked up a lot of dirt from the sandy campsite. The down pour this weekend didn’t help either.
Luckily, there are a couple ways to clean the EVAs. The proper way is to use bleach (something like Comet would work) to give the sandals a deep clean. In my case, I actually used some Lysol Wipes and gave them a good scrub and now they look good as new! See photo below:
Where Can I Purchase The EVAs?
I ordered my EVAs from Te Koop‘s online store. If you want to visit them in person, they’re located at Queen & Spadina. I found that Te Koop offered the most variety in terms of colours and sizing. Many of the other Canadian retailers were either sold out of the colours I was looking for or only offered a very limited choice of colors. They also have very fast shipping. If you order before 11AM, they do same day shipping. I received my sandals within three days of my order.
